Continental Flag
This is the flag used by the American navy during the War of Independence from the British, 1776-1883. The flag was soon abandoned due to its similarity to the British flag. The original American ideal was to declare respectful rebellion, desiring free governance while still honoring the British crown; all "colonists" after all were British citizens at this time.

Personally I like the flag as a symbolic hybrid of British and American, given I've now lived in the United States for four years.
